Finding Harmony
French fashion label, Harmony, was created in 2014 by creative director David Obadia. The brand focuses on creating collections, suitable for both men and women, that impose a strong and recognisable identity. The minimalistic colour blocking designs and colour palette achieve an effortless yet refined style that mirrors Obadia’s Parisian background and attitude with a certain arrogance and distinctive elegance.
Obadia states that ‘he never studied fashion’ and ‘just knew what [he] liked and it wasn’t necessarily what everybody else liked’. He was purely driven by his passion for an ideal wardrobe and incredible sense of marketing which has led the self-taught designer to success. He claims to be inspired by modern and contemporary art through literature, movies, dance, music and even the Belgian fashion wave of the 1990’s.
“Personal style is about having a sense of yourself and what you believe in.”
His brand emphasises that people should do what they want, wear what they want and not necessarily follow trends. The label does not only represent clothes, but it represents a way of life too. Obadia states that he would like to follow brands such as Armani and Ralph Lauren where they have been successful in extending their worlds into the art of living.
Obadia believes that brands exceed not only when they produce high-end quality garments but when they are able to encapsulate the best energy in the world. He grew up in streetwear and believes that it will always be part of his DNA. Even though Harmony is a contemporary brand he combines the energy of streetwear to design and provide good garments.
Harmony has a strong presence on social media platform instagram @harmony_paris. The brand showcases imagery and symbols that represent the brand and what they stand for. From fashion icons, athletes, art, actors/ actresses and Italian cars, harmony creates a contemporary 90’s aesthetic feed. They utilise social media marketing to enhance their brand image and are able to target a specific niche in the market.
“If you have high fashion garments and the energy of streetwear, you have the best brand in the world.”
Since 2014, Harmony has collaborated with brands such as Sporty & Rich, ASICS and Puma.
